Key Points:
Sin has a perfect hiding place . . . our heart . . . it is a perfect hiding place
because our heart is deceitful and unsearchable (Jeremiah 17:9).
Scripture speaks of the heart comprising our mind, will, affections, and
conscience—so all of these are deceitful and unsearchable, too.
The tendency is to become confident that our war with sin is over, it is in
these times we are vulnerable to ambush.
We are constantly to be "on guard" against our "enemy within" (Matthew
16:6; Matthew 26:41; Luke 12:15; 1 Corinthians 16:13; 2 Peter 3:17).
We don't know our hearts, but He does—Psalm 139:23-24 is to be our
continual prayer:
"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my
anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead
me in the way everlasting."
